Geoffrey Nobes

Geoff was for many years Director of Music at St Edmund’s Catholic School, Portsmouth. His choir made eight concert tours to Malta, broadcasting on Maltese television and radio. They also sang live on BBC1 during the Easter morning service broadcast from St John’s Catholic cathedral.

He was bandmaster of Portsmouth Citadel Band of the Salvation Army, following his father and grandfather in that position, and was involved in many international tours as well as national television and radio broadcasts.

He was director of the Cappella Singers for ten years, giving concerts in cathedrals and churches throughout the south of England, and making a recording of settings of the Eucharist for the RSCM.

He is now a music lecturer at South Downs College, where he teaches music history and composition and directs the College Brass Ensemble.

His musical influences stem from the rich choral, brass and hymn tradition of the Salvation Army, the English choral tradition, and the practical needs of working for many years with many young people of different musical abilities. He also loves the Celtic tradition, evidence of which can be heard in his albums.

His music and CDs are published by Kevin Mayhew Publishers.
